The Nature Conservancy: Cultivating NYC's Future Forest Through Video Production

Project Description

Melty Cone Video collaborated with The Nature Conservancy on their critical "Future Forest NYC" initiative, crafting a powerful video designed to elevate public understanding and champion urban environmental equity within New York City.

The Client & Their Vital Initiative

The Nature Conservancy works globally to protect lands and waters. In New York City, their "Future Forest NYC" initiative focuses on securing a clear, coordinated vision and fostering more champions for the city's vast urban forest. This vital system, comprising over 7 million trees across sidewalks, parks, and natural areas, provides essential benefits like air purification, cooling, and heat-related illness reduction for all New Yorkers.

The Communication Challenge

Despite its immense value, the benefits of NYC's urban forest are not equitably distributed. Heat-vulnerable neighborhoods, often low-income communities or communities of color, frequently suffer from less tree cover. The challenge was to create a video that could powerfully illustrate this disparity, underscore the urgency of extreme heat, and inspire collective action towards a more equitable and resilient urban forest, as highlighted by Emily Nobel Maxwell, New York cities director for The Nature Conservancy.

Melty Cone Video's Solution

Melty Cone Video produced an impactful advocacy video for "Future Forest NYC." Our approach combined compelling visuals of New York City's diverse landscapes—from lush parks to heat-vulnerable streets—with clear, expert testimonials. The video was crafted to visually connect the dots between urban trees, public health, and social equity, motivating viewers to become champions for a greener, cooler, and more equitable city. We ensured the narrative was both informative and emotionally resonant, driving home the initiative's importance.

Impact & Outcome

The resulting video effectively articulated The Nature Conservancy's vision for Future Forest NYC. By clearly communicating the profound benefits of urban trees and the stark realities of climate inequity, the video served as a powerful tool for public education and engagement. It galvanized support, amplified calls for coordinated action, and positioned The Nature Conservancy as a leader in cultivating a healthier, more equitable urban environment for all New Yorkers.
